Toitū: Geographies of Resilience
In July 2010 we hosted the New Zealand Geographical Society Conference. Just two months later a series of earthquakes devastated the built environment, caused major upheavals for our natural environment and was an extremely testing time for our communities. Twelve years on this conference will examine and critique resilience, its relevance for recovery and the processes used.
We want this conference to showcase geographical research by geographers, collaborators and partners in allied disciplines. We wish to support and elevate postgraduate and early career research and research in partnership with tangata whenua and communities. Above all we want this conference to be intellectually stimulating and for everyone to have a fun time.
There are a number of themes for the conference that have guided the selection of our keynote speakers. The call for sessions and abstracts can address these themes or address wider themes in geography.
Theme 1. Resilience in the context of environmental change, governance and/or justice
Theme 2. Well being and health approaches to resilience
Theme 3. Recovery & regenerative development: solutions, approaches, methodologies and practices for social and/or ecological restoration.
Theme 4. Resilience in the context of counter geographies
Theme 5. Resilience in the context of place-based, community grassroots geographies
